The Campus Sustainability Committee

A Task Force was created and charged with developing and suggesting a plan that would consider whether or not the University should be a smoke-free campus. This task force reports their suggestions to the Campus Sustainability Committee for use by the Chancellor and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, to consider the proposal.

  • Task Force on Campus Smoking        
    • The Task Force was charged with developing and suggesting a plan that would consider whether or not the University should be a smoke-free campus.  This task force reports their suggestions to the Campus Sustainability Committee for use by the Chancellor and Executive Vice President and Chief financial Officer, to consider the proposal.
      • The Task Force needs to identify:
        • All issues pertaining to a smoke-free campus
        • Constituencies that need to be consulted
        • Issues that may arise
        • Find services and programs that may be available to the University community to assist with smoking cessation
    • The Task Force is continuing to review the issue and working with the following groups:
      • University Senate regarding support by the campus community of a non-smoking environment.
      • The University Wellness Committee and the Office of Human Resources in developing suggested smoking cessation services.
      • The school of Environmental Science and Forestry regarding development of complementing programs.
      • The City of Syracuse regarding prohibiting smoking on adjacent City walkways.
      • The Student Association and Graduate Student Association regarding potential implementation issues.
      • The Carrier Dome management staff regarding potential implementation issues.
      • Peer institutions regarding actions taken or being contemplated.
      • The office of Public Affairs regarding development of a communication strategy.
